NOTE FROM PASTOR DALE:
“Dana and I enjoy pastoring
Gethsemane. Why? Because we see
where we’ve been and where God
is taking us. Over the years we’ve
seen Gethsemane transform its
approach to ministry while still
holding to its message. We have
become casual and contemporary.
Casual in our dress and in our
concept of “Church” while
maintaining our desire for a
genuine, intimate, vibrant,
relationship with God through Jesus
Christ.  Contemporary in our
approach to ministry, with relevant
focused messages, heartfelt
worship and dynamic, fun-filled
Children’s ministries.
Our greatest desire is to help
people see the possibility of being a
part of something much bigger and
more important than they every
dreamed. The Bible calls it “The
Body of Christ”, we simply call it our
Church Family.  Please come and
join us as we strive to discover our
place within the family.”

Meet Youth Pastors Mark & Nancy Gerner

Mark Gerner has been on-staff at
Gethsemane since 1984; he and wife
Nancy have been a part of
Gethsemane's youth ministry for
over 20 years, serving as the Youth
Pastors  here since the mid-1990s. A
graduate of University of Evansville,
Mark introduced Contemporary
Christian Music to the Tri-State in
the late '70s through a radio show
and by promoting Christian
Concerts. Today, Mark and Nancy
continue to invest in and train this
generation to mobilize and reach
others around them for Jesus Christ!
THE TRUTH ABOUT MANKIND
Mankind was created in the image of God, but fell into disobedience of God’s
will and lost relationship with Him. The cure comes with faith in the sacrificially
shed blood of Jesus and his resurrection. Without faith [believing in God], it is
impossible to please God. The Holy Spirit’s position glorifies Jesus through His
church. He dwells in believers, guiding empowering us in service to God. He
gives various gifts, including supernatural wisdom, knowledge and faith,
miracles, the discerning of spirits, healings, prophecy, and various kinds of
tongues. Believers are encouraged to receive the Holy Spirit’s gift; the initial
evidence of this is speaking in tongues and having a bold witness of God to
the world. Salvation redeems us from the curse of poverty,
sickness and death.

WHAT WE BELIEVE
The Bible is the mind and heart of Jesus Christ. God is revealed as Father,
Son and Holy Spirit Christianity has no meaning outside of Jesus Christ; he is
the cornerstone of Christian faith. We believe Jesus’ deity, yet humanity. Jesus
was born of a virgin, performed miracles, and though tempted to sin, lived a
sin-free life. His life made Him eligible to be mankind’s ‘Sacrificial Lamb’ to pay
the penalty for mankind’s sin. He [Jesus] was crucified without cause; after he
was crucified, on the third day the Holy Spirit’s power
raised Him from the dead. We believe Jesus’ soon coming return as King of
kings and Lord of lords. Jesus is uniquely qualified in all of human history as
humanity’s only hope of salvation.

Baptism
Because baptism is an outward expression of an inward spiritual reality, we
direct believers to be baptized.  Baptisms are held bi-monthly.

Communion
We normally offer the Lord’s Supper the first Sunday of  each month. We
encourage all believers to participate in this time of worship and remembrance.

Worship
Praise gives honor to God, yet prepares our hearts to receive from Him. We
invite guests to join with us in honoring God in worship.

Prayer
Within a service or on special days, there may be times of corporate prayer
led by leaders. Smaller, topical prayer groups meet at special times and are
posted in the bulletin when scheduled.

Membership
We request the completion of our six-class membership course, it’s
periodically held on Wednesday evenings during service. Watch the
announcements or call the church office to find out about upcoming classes.

Missions
We believe in outreach, encouraging our members to minister in their families,
work places and schools, and even on foreign fields.  We’re also actively
involved in supporting ministries across the globe. We currently support
missionaries to Mexico, India, Ethiopia, and Haiti.

Mission Trips
At all levels, Gethsemane is involved with the work of missions. Financial and
prayer support is important, but we also encourage members to consider short-
term mission trips.  The Pastors, Adult and Teen groups have taken mission
trips to Haiti, Estonia, Mexico, Jamaica and Bolivia.

Eldercare Outreach
Reaching out to people who are unable to come to church  is our way of
showing the love of  Jesus through teaching and music. Gethsemane ministers
in several nursing home facilities and senior
apartment complexes.

Community Involvement
Being a witness of Jesus is important to individuals, but for the church as well.
Gethsemane works to be involved in various community projects such as the
Delaware School Project where Gethsemane
purchases school supplies for the entire school.
